Mother’s Day Weekend 2018

Hello there and happy Monday morning to you all! I hope your day is off to a fantastic start and you have a great week ahead of you. This week is looking pretty fun, so far, for the Thompson family. I have my a half marathon this upcoming weekend (more details on that soon!) and I couldn’t be more pumped! I am hoping to get into the chiropractor one more time and make sure I am all up to par before race day. Anyways, this Mother’s Day weekend was so special. My main goal this weekend was to spend some much needed quality time with my boys and that is just what happened.

Since Landon’s job change, our schedule has been jam packed with busy evenings and weekends and it hit me hard Saturday morning. I think the past three weeks I’ve been running on caffeine and Adrenalin and Saturday morning, I crashed. I woke up feeling pretty burnt out thinking of the day ahead and all of the things I ‘had’ to do Saturday and Sunday. I am usually the kind of person that loves being busy and doing activities and seeing people, but I also need that time to have some down time and quality time with my family to recharge and feel refreshed. Since I was feeling so overwhelmed and burn out, we decided to cancel our morning plans and spend a Saturday doing nothing. And I think it was one of the best decisions Landon and I have ever made.

best friends

We canceled our plans, took a walk at a park, and hung out at home. We didn’t do much, we talked and hung out and then decided to go see Avengers: Infinity War while Niah spent time with his aunts.

The movie was so different from other Marvel movies and we both enjoyed it. I don’t want to give any spoilers for others who may have not seen it, but I was quite surprised with a lot of the movie, which was a fun change of pace. After the movie, we stopped at a local creamery, got some vegan ice cream, and walked downtown.

He’s my favorite human ever.

After we got back from the movie, I made a quick and easy dinner of roasted potatoes, and brussel sprouts with grilled chicken. Nikki and Kayli hunt out for a while after dinner and we all enjoyed the time catching up and relaxing together.

Once Niah was in bed, Landon and I spent time relaxing, catching up, and crashed at a decently late hour.

Sunday

6 miles

Mother’s Day morning, I woke up early to my alarm clock, dragged myself out of bed and got coffee before I could fall back asleep. I planned to get up early and go run and I knew if I went back to bed, I wouldn’t have time to run before church, since I was on worship team. I thought for a half second about running after church, but I knew it wouldn’t happen if I didn’t run in the morning. I don’t know if you are like me, but running in the afternoon/evening is about 49x harder than running in the morning. After 11am, my motivation level drops significantly and I knew on Mother’s Day, especially I would have a hard time getting it done after church. In order to combat my sleepiness, I drank some coffee, had my devotions, and I was out the door by 7.

It was super gorgeous out for a run (a little cool, around 50) but perfect running temperature with long sleeves/shorts. I ran a quick 6 miles, before getting home with 20 minutes to spare. The run felt AMAZING and it left me feeling really encouraged about my upcoming half marathon. Now, if I can pull off another 7 miles at that pace, I have my PR I’ve been chasing in the bag! Once I got home, I showered, grabbed breakfast, and we all headed out the door to church and made it there, just four minutes past when we were supposed to. I was pretty impressed with ourselves.

Church was encouraging and afterwards, we headed out to meet my in-law’s for lunch (we are celebrating with my mom in two weeks and I was able to chat with her on the phone yesterday too!) at a Korean restaurant. Landon is half Korean, which practically makes me Korean too, right 😉 I’ve never had Korean food before, but everything was delicious and so different from any food I’ve ever eaten before. I think I’ve decided that Korean food could be a normal thing for us and I need to learn how to make it.

After our lunch, we headed back home and spent a lot of time hanging out with Niah, playing blocks, going on walks, and relaxing together before the work week. Landon surprised me with chocolate, flowers, a card, and Panera for dinner > he is the best.

This weekend was life giving, to say the least. I felt so loved and so blessed. I am so thankful for all the mothers out there, for all your sacrifice, your love, your support. Thank you.

To my sweet boy who made me a mom:

To the one who made me a mother, I am so thankful for you. You are such joy and watching you explore the world and dream and try and fail and try again inspires me. I pray to be a mother who teaches you to love Jesus and who inspires you to be the very best version of yourself that you can be. Keep dreaming and playing and learning and being little, little one. You are forever my favorite tiny human. 💗

To my mama: Happy Mother’s Day to the woman who has loved me unconditionally. To the woman who taught me to love Jesus. To the woman who inspired me to run. To the woman who exemplifies sacrificial service.
Ever since becoming a mom, my admiration, love and respect for my mom has only grown. So, mom, if I’ve never said it before, thank you for those late nights you stayed up with me. Thank you for cleaning up after me. Thank you for cooking hundreds of meals to keep me fed. Thank you for crying with me and teaching me how to persevere. Thank you for encouraging me, believing in me, supporting me, and running with me. Thank you for telling me the hard things and for always being a listening ear.

Thank you for showing me Jesus love. Again and again and again and again.
I hope I’m like you when I grow up.

And to all the people who have a hard time with this holiday, I hope you know you are loved and not alone.
