Injury Update + Upcoming Race Plans

Hello to all my favorite people! I hope you are having a great day so far and that life is going well for you today! It’s been a busy one over here and now I am finally sitting down getting this post written, that was supposed to be written this morning. Oh well, you win some, you lose some, right? Right.

If you’ve been following my on Instagram or pretty much anywhere else for that matter, you probably heard the bad news. I have a injury and it kind of stinks. On the bright side though, this is the first injury that I have had for a while and I do feel like I am on the mend – hallelujah! It’s a weird injury because it’s been a on going sort of annoyance for the past couple of months, but it hasn’t hurt. It was one of those pains that felt annoying at times, but never affected me during my runs or even, afterwards until last week. Last week I ran an easy paced 7 mile run (on Thursday) and afterwards my right toe/metatarsal area felt so sore. I knew it wasn’t good when it was painful to walk on. So, today marks day 6 of no running. It’s been so hard to not get out there and run and do what I love, but I do know that my body will be so much more happy with me, if I give it time to rest, recover, and build up strength for my next training cycle.

Since I have this little break from running, I have decided to focus on what I CAN DO instead of what I can’t. As much as part of me wants to just run through the irritation and pain, I KNOW that that isn’t going to do any good (plus, I need to take the advice I give my athletes right
I may not be able to run right now, but I CAN strength train, I can foam roll, I can eat well, I can cross train, I can work on stabilization and really, so much more.
Coming off a half marathon PR, an injury is the last thing I wanted. I wanted to get out there and keep training hard. But this is forcing me to rest and slow down a little, which will only set me up for a stronger comeback. Instead of focusing on what you can’t do, focus on what you CAN. Trust me, the injury recovery process is so much more sweet when we realize we have such an awesome opportunity to grow as a runner in areas we often (at least I do) forget to focus on!
I’m hoping to be back soon, but until I pounding the pavement and cranking out miles, I’ll be looking to what’s ahead, strengthening areas that I’m weak in, and dreaming about running until I can tie up my laces again.

I have my sights set on a marathon (!) we will see how everything progresses here in the next couple of weeks, but if everything heals fine, I would love to run another marathon here in the fall! I feel like there is so much more I need and want to learn about the marathon. I also feel like I have so much more to give and to do with those 26.2 miles. So, as long as everything feels good, I’m gearing up for another training cycle and I couldn’t be more stoked.
