Running Updates + Since We Last Talked

Hey, hey friends and happy Thursday! Right now, I am currently at my parents for the day, catching up with my sister in law who lives in Louisiana. I am so glad to sneak in a quick trip to see some of my favorite people and Niah is quite excited about going to Ama and Pop’s house for lots of playtime.

I wanted to pop in here and share a quick update of what is with running and where I am at in my injury recovery process, plus some random tangents because that is always more fun than sticking to a plan, right? Right.

First off, this injury combo (plantar plate + Achilles issues) has been the longest on-going injury (maybe aside from shin splints) that I’ve had ever. But, I have learned so much from this season and it is really forced me to take a step back, evaluate things, adjust goals, and adjust training. Really, I am thankful for the setbacks, because I know it has taught me things I probably would have not learned otherwise. BUT I am happy to say that I am in my fourth (?) week of pain free running and feeling very minimal discomfort else where. My Achilles is weird, it feels fine running, but sometimes if I move my foot in a weird position it will bother me.Thankfully, even that is decreasing, so I do know that I am on the mend.

I recently, hired a coach for myself (a coach needs a coach too!) and I AM SO PUMPED to see where this coach will take me. I hired Seth and Lauren Totten from Team Totten (they are both super speedy and both were/are professional athletes. YESS.) Also, I love their passion for Christ and how much they love each other. It makes me so happy.

So, right now, I am building my base back up (again) and getting my body used to more mileage, more comfortable with the impact from running, and doing a few strides once a week. Something I am changing is focusing a LOT more on runner specific strength training + injury prevention. Although I am thankful for this injury I do not LIKE being injured. To avoid further (or more) injuries, I am doing everything I can to ensure I stay healthy and strong through this build up. I am excited to see what is ahead and cautiously optimistic about the future.

And a few things that have happened since we last chatted…

On Monday, I remembered that I had enough points (i.e. I spent enough money haha) to get a free latte at my favorite local, coffee shop. I LOVE supporting local businesses and My Half of the Sky is THE BEST. Not only do they serve organic drinks and products, but their mission to help end modern slavery. I love knowing that my money is going toward a mission that is also near and dear to my heart, while enjoying a cup of the best coffee around. (Not even kidding.) Monday morning, Benaiah and I grabbed a latte for mom, a granola bar for Benaiah and sat on their bench enjoying the construction site across the street (i.e. peace and quiet for mom.) It was such a sweet moment to share with Niah and free lattes just make Monday seem so right.

THIS KID.

Man, the past couple of weeks, Benaiah’s language and communication skills have just exploded. He’s talking so much, giving me these sweet side hugs, wanting me to lay down next to him and sing his bed times songs, running on the sidewalk with me, and doing so much more. It seems like my baby went to a boy overnight. I can’t get over how much I love him. He wanted to send the above picture to my brother, and I think he nailed that half smile. Be still my heart.

Aside from drinking lattes and spending time with this kid, we’ve been having friends over for play dates and I’ve been working on a FUN project coming YOUR way soon! I am so excited to reveal it, but I want to make sure it is all ready to go before I officially launch it!

Here’s to the rest of the week, I hope your Thursday is awesome friends!
