Weekend Recap- Runs, Church, Showers, and Food

my man

Hello friends! My mind is still winding down from the weekend. I don’t know about your weekend, but mine was FULL. Although there was not much time for rest, it was filled with joy, laughter, and all of my favorite people.

Friday day, Landon and I got our marriage license! Talk about surreal!

Later that night, Landon and I spent time with his family. Friday nights with the Thompson family means swimming, croquet, trampoline time, board games, and movies. We had a great time and I think my croquet skills are improving! I didn’t realize that when I said ‘Yes,’ to Landon’s proposal, I was marrying into the professional croquet playing family. 😉 I’ve worked on my skills since…

Saturday morning, Landon and I squeezed a two-mile run in after our devotions and before I went to my bridal shower. This run was a lot easier than last Saturday’s run. On last Saturday’s run, we jumped in a creek – it was that hot.

After running, I got ready to go, and enjoyed time with friends in West Chicago.

Saturday’s shower was hosted by a Thompson family friend (and my friend too), who is pregnant (props!)  It was a beautiful shower. It was so fun to see all the little touches she had spread throughout the house.  We had a delicious lunch followed by a fantastic ice cream cake.

It was enjoyed.

After cake, I opened gifts and tried to remember to look photogenic. That didn’t work so well. Please ignore the awkward facial expressions.

gifts

Although, I really am not a fan of opening up gifts in front of people, I enjoyed celebrating with friends and family. It was amazing to see everyone’s support, love, and generosity!

Grandma

Sweet Grandma Thompson shared words of wisdom and a devotional too. She is such an amazing woman.

(Also, thanks Emily for your photography skills.)

On the way home, I slept a bit and chatted with my sisters and mom.

Sunday morning, Landon and I went to church, along with his sister and brother. After service, a potluck, and fellowship, I left to go to another bridal shower.

(I may or may not have worn the same dress…shh…)

My lovely friend, Mrs. Ronnie hosted my bridal shower and everything was just lovely.

We played games, ate dessert, and shared in conversation. She had pictures of Landon and I all over her house on scrap-booking paper! It was so cute!

These were only some of the people who were at the shower, but it was another fun day, well spent.

These showers have taught me a lot, such as…

1. Hospitality is important. The Bible talks a lot about hospitality, and now I understand why, just a little better. Opening up your home is not only generous, but also loving. It is a great way to show the love of Christ to others and blesses others immensely.

2. Gifts are a blessing. Enough said.

3. Family is a blessing. It really is a beautiful thing to see two families unite. I am so grateful for both families the Lord has given me (and Landon!)

4. Practically speaking, register for gifts that you will use often. I have so many things that people have given me, that I would have needed to buy anyways. Those are my favorite types of gifts!

In conclusion, this weekend was crazy, full, fun, and joy filled. And I wouldn’t have had it any other way. (Expect maybe more time with my fiancé…. 😉 )

And with that note, I think I need another cup of coffee! I will catch you all later.

Hope you all have a marvelous Monday!

“Be hospitable to one another without complaint.”
