This Week I’ve Learned

I don’t get sick often, but when I do, it seems like I get really sick. This past week has been one of ‘those’ weeks. Early Tuesday morning I woke up sicker than a dog, and that lasted until Thursday night.  I felt a lot better Friday and Saturday, but could still tell that I had the effects. Although this week has been through, and I didn’t even get to run at all, I’ve learned some important things.

1. Rest is important.

I know a lot of the running community (and myself) struggles with this one. Rest is something that is often down-played, shrugged off, or thought as ‘for the faint-of-heart.’ I know too, that it is different when someone is sick. However, either way, rest is vital to healing muscles, repairing torn ligaments/tissues, and strengthening us for the week to come. I always take 1 (usually Sundays) or 2 rest days a week so my muscles stay protected.

2. Moms are really fabulous

Alright, I already knew this one. But man, when your mom doesn’t feel good, and she still helps you get whatever you need, cleans up after you, and brings you ice chips; it speaks volumes. I am very blessed to have her in my life.

3. Psych can cure anything

Have you guys seen this show?  If you are having a bad day, please sit down and watch a couple of episodes. I promise, you will not be disappointed. I love to laugh and this show always makes me lose it.

4. I really missed running

I know, it is only been a week. But for a runner, it seems like an eternity. So to keep myself occupied, I cheered on my fellow runners via instagram , pinned quotes by Kara Goucher and from Runner’s World, and literally dreamed about running. I kid you not, I woke up on Friday and thought I had run a marathon in 2:34. I was almost crying tears of joy because I was so excited. I woke up and was impressed with myself because my muscles didn’t ache, when lo and behold I realized it was a dream. Talk about disappointing.
