Marathon Training Week One Recap + Weekly Workouts

MARATHON TRAINING WEEK ONE

Is it just me or are you super pumped it’s FRIYAY!?!! This week has flown by and I am happy to get this quieter than usual weekend kicked off. Next weekend, I am in my friend’s wedding (Yay!) which means this quiet weekend will be a nice time to rest before a busy weekend next week.

Also, this week was the official week my marathon training began! So far, all my runs have been on schedule and felt amazing! Although it’s only one week of training under my belt, I feel confident as I look into the next week of training ahead. I am that person that loves schedules and to-do lists and I thrive on training plans. If someone just tells me what to do, I will do it. I don’t mind making it up myself, but if it is already made and packaged up for me, that makes it even easier.

Let’s rewind back to Monday and talk about my training plan:

Sunday

Sunday morning, Mother’s Day, nothing was on the training plan, but I decided to go out and treat myself to three speedy miles before the rest of the world woke up. You know you are a runner when a run feels like a ‘treat.’ haha. I was happy with my splits, but I was even more happy about being able to run before the day started and all the chaos began! I took the rest of the day easy and enjoyed lots of good food and family time!

Monday

Typically, I LOVE to run on Mondays, but my training plan has Mondays as a scheduled rest day. So, instead of running, I did a 10 minute ab video (this one is killer!) and a 10 minute glute video. Strong glutes = happy runners. I don’t mind taking a complete rest day, but I was craving a nice sweat session, so I kept it low impact and worked on my strength training.

Tuesday

Tuesday was my official 1st day of marathon training and I couldn’t have been happier! The training plan I am following is super gradual, which meant this run was only three miles. I ran a little faster than I anticipated, with splits of. I enjoyed running before Benaiah was awake and made sure to stretch out after ending.

Wednesday

Wednesday morning was another scheduled three mile run, which I ran while Landon watched Benaiah. I ran it at a slower pace, intentionally, and it felt nice to take it slow and ‘smell the roses.’ I stretched out once I got home and foam rolled in the evening, since I forgot to foam roll post run (woops!)

Thursday

Thursday morning, I went out with my group of running friends (yay!) and ran a fun and intense run of six miles with hill repeats! We ran along the river, which was nice and easy and then eventually made it to hill #1. Hill #1 was a deceiving since it wasn’t that steep of a hill, but it was long and gradual, which made it TOUGH. We ran up and down 5x and then ran a little ways to hill #2. Oddly enough, although hill #2 was waayyy steeper, I found it easier, since it wasn’t so long and drawn out. We ran hill #2 5x up and down again and then headed back home, for a total of six miles. Although I wasn’t the fastest in the group, I did have a ton of fun and left feelings super strong and ready for the rest of the day!

Friday

Friday = a rest day for me. I will be kicking back and relaxing with the family and probably doing only light walking!

Saturday

Weekends are typically my long run days, but since I got my long run in on Thursday, I’ll be running three- four while Landon plays pick up soccer.

Sunday

Sunday = a cross training for me, which really means an active recovery day. I’ll focus on walking and maybe some light core work!

Thoughts from the training:

So far, so good! My legs felt fresh all week long and strong. I am so thankful to be able to move and running is a gift that I don’t want to take for granted!

And with that, I hope you guys have a fantastic weekend with whatever you may be doing!
